The Saturday Show 29th March

The Saturday Show 29th March

It’s 9:00 on another Saturday, which means it’s time for the Monster Magic Saturday Show! A crisp morning out on the boat, but let’s dive into this week’s reviews.

Three Gods Assembly by Daxian the Illusionist & Hanson Chien (£139.99)
A fresh take on cups and balls using two Benson bowls and sponge balls. The routine emphasises audience interaction and comedy, with only two basic moves required. The bowls are well-made with a useful lip which helps keep the handling natural, though they do lack the recessed base which can be useful for some routines. The sponge balls are firm, flat-bottomed, and can be swapped with your own. The hour-long tutorial covers all phases, psychology, and timing in detail and even with transparent bowls for clarity. A solid, modernised routine with excellent teaching, though at a premium price.

Corner Piece by Sean Ridgeway and Steve Langston (£27.99)
A torn-and-restored card where the selection is signed, torn into quarters, and visually reassembled piece by piece. The final piece can even be placed slightly off before tapping it flush, and the restored card is handed out. The method uses a clever two-part gimmick hidden in a tin, working with any freely chosen card (though best with red backs). The 2.5-hour tutorial is long, but covers several variations including mentalism and “indicator” reveals. Angle-sensitive (180°), but very practical, clean, and easier than most restorations.

Prophekey by Paul Fowler (£34.99)
An everyday carry card reveal using keys on your keyring. Two keys align to show the participant’s chosen card, typically forced via a simple online card generator. Comes with reveal keys plus blank keys for extra routines. While they feel light, they pass as normal once on your keyring. The tutorial is clear and detailed, with handling tips and variations (including spectator-in-hand reveals). Simple, quirky, and self-working, though some may wish the reveal weren’t limited to playing cards.

Ozone by Hanson Chen (£19.99)
A quirky, visual effect: blow up a balloon without tying it, let go, and it stays inflated. At your command, it slowly deflates. Comes with opaque 10cm balloons and two special gimmicks. Tutorial (20 mins, dubbed) teaches basic and advanced handlings, including tying the balloon and handing it out. Easy to perform, funny, and baffling—especially when contrasted with a normal balloon flying around. A light, novel routine that gets big reactions.
