Monster Magic Saturday Show
It’s 9:00—time for the Monster Magic Saturday Show! The boat’s electrics are down, so no heating, but let’s warm up with some cracking reviews.
Challenge Coin – R. Paul Wilson (£28.50)
A self-working trick based on Arthur Carter’s 1975 idea. Six cards (three face up, three face down) are laid out. A coin with clear instructions (“roll die, move left, count to number”) directs the spectator to the only red card—matching the coin’s prediction.
- Heavy, quality coin removes ambiguity from earlier versions.
- Includes cards, but any deck works.
- Tutorial (30 mins) covers history, theory, and subtleties from Dean Dill.
- Strong, simple, and very clean.
Together Forever – Steve Gore (£19.99)
A twist on Anniversary Waltz: two signed cards fuse in the couple’s hands, offset for a casual look.
- Comes with 36 bicycle gimmicks.
- Easier handling than traditional method, though one bolder move is required.
- No extra gaffs—deck remains intact.
- Downsides: gimmicks can’t live in the deck box, need carrying separately; refills required.
- Lovely souvenir and strong for couples.
Fast Forward – Víctor Sans & João Miranda (£60.50)
A clever update to the baby gag. A spectator picks a celebrity from a list. You reveal a baby photo, then “fast forward” it into their adult picture.
- Gimmicked envelope (likely Tyvek) is durable and very deceptive.
- Includes photos of Tom Cruise, Margot Robbie, and Mr Beast.
- Easy handling; just practice to keep it silent.
- Short tutorial (7 mins) because the gimmick does the work.
- A funny, magical routine with great construction.
Pair Up – Nicholas Mavresis (£21.99)
A self-working matching effect for couples. Participants deal through pairs like Batman and Robin or Laurel and Hardy. At the end, the only match is “You and Me,” followed by all the other pairs matching as a kicker.
- Based on Paul Curry’s swindle deal.
- Cards are text-only, not illustrated.
- Includes a poem reveal for extra presentation value.
- Bonus routine included but weaker.
- Plays best with strong presentation; the magic lies in the emotional hook.
That’s it for this week. Off to fix the boat electrics - enjoy the best hobby in the world this weekend. See you next time!
