The Saturday Show December 13th

The Saturday Show December 13th

Good morning and welcome to another Monster Saturday show. It’s 9am, tea and bacon are ready, and despite pulling a muscle, we’re powering through with another packed set of reviews.

Remixed Oil & Water by Javier Natera (£12.99)

Javier Natera follows Synchronous with a streamlined take on the classic Oil & Water plot. Six cards—three red, three black—are repeatedly mixed and impossibly separate. The routine builds to a strong “Do As I Do” phase where the spectator’s cards also separate, creating a powerful psychological convincer.

Javier simplifies much of the sleight of hand using subtle gimmicks, making this one of the cleanest and easiest Oil & Water routines available. The handling is relaxed, fair-looking, and well taught in a clear 25-minute tutorial. While the gimmicks use Maiden backs rather than Rider backs, this is unlikely to be noticed in performance.

The standout moment is the spectator phase inspired by Danny Ortiz, which alone makes this worth carrying. With practice and good choreography, this is a strong, engaging packet trick that can grow with your confidence.

Nova Rings by Carissa Hendrix (£189.99)

Nova Rings is a professional, parlor- and stage-focused take on the linking finger rings. Three borrowed rings are linked and unlinked cleanly, visibly, and returned to their owners. The specially designed Himber-style rings are deliberately plain, allowing them to convincingly pass as borrowed wedding bands or smart rings.

The props are beautifully made, the handling is straightforward, and the real value lies in Carissa’s teaching. The 90-minute tutorial focuses heavily on presentation, psychology, audience interaction, and staging. Every move serves a purpose, keeping attention exactly where it should be.

This is not a close-up or walk-around piece, but for parlor or stage performers, it’s one of the strongest and most deceptive versions of the plot available.

Audience Question – Are everyday objects disappearing from magic?

While items like coins, notes, and keys may become less common, what matters is that audiences understand an object’s physical properties. Magic happens when those properties are clearly violated. Whether it’s a coin, a key, a phone, or even a nostalgic object like a CD, clarity of constraints creates the magic—not how modern the object is.

Chop Pot by Wayne Fox and TCC (£99.99)

Wayne Fox’s Chop Pot is a refined chop cup routine designed for parlour and walk-around. The stainless steel cup is heavy, durable, and thoughtfully proportioned. The routine itself is straightforward, but the real strength lies in Wayne’s teaching—particularly on audience management, misdirection, and positioning.

The standout feature is the finale: the cup transforms into a salt cellar containing a signed, folded card. This is a brilliant kicker and strong enough to justify the purchase on its own. The salt cellar is beautifully made and highly deceptive, though angle-sensitive.

Even if you don’t adopt the full routine, the final load prop and Wayne’s insights are pure gold.

Morphing Plush by JT Magic (£34.50)

Morphing Plush is a fun, visual transformation: a white rabbit plush instantly changes into a blue elephant. The props are well made, look like genuine toys, and the change is fast and deceptive.

The tutorial focuses heavily on body positioning and timing, which is where the real secret lies. While the mechanics are easy, creating a meaningful routine is left to the performer. It’s playful, quirky, and charming—ideal for family shows—but may feel more visual than magical without a strong presentation.
