The Saturday Show May 17th

It’s 9:00 on a Saturday—time for the Monster Magic Show! Now let’s dive in.

Diget Spinner by Tim Star and John Stahl (£38.50)
Not exactly magic, more like a fidget spinner for grown-ups. Spin a card, credit card, or even your phone endlessly on your finger. The gimmick is tiny, clever, and comes with a centering tool. Tutorial is 40 minutes, plenty to master the knack. Addictive, fun, versatile, but pricey for what is essentially a “fake skill.”

Blow Hard by Ryan Plunkett (£51.50)
A comedy stage piece: float a ball with a pipe, it drops as a heavy steel ball, then cracks open into an egg. Big laughs, great shock moment, and a strong magical payoff. Easy to do, well thought-out, and beautifully packaged. Only downside: needs a glass/hat for the final load. Otherwise, gold.

Max Shot by Sinbad Max (£64.99)
Produce a shot glass of whiskey from a napkin—filled to the brim! Comes with superb props (including a realistic silicone glass), detailed tutorials, and bonus routines. Versatile for productions, vanishes, and even casual bar magic. Everything screams quality. A little practice needed, but hard to beat for impact.

Optix Pro by Tobias Dostal and Henry Harrius (£79.99)
Borrow a phone, vanish it, then reveal they’ve been filming the vanish on their own phone. The upgraded gimmick has USB-C charging, better battery, and multiple setups (Henry’s version leaves you totally clean). Comes with everything you need, clear teaching, and strong audience reactions. Needs a jacket for the reel version, but overall, brilliant.

Sharpen by Alain Vachon (£43.50)
A Sharpie cap changes colour back and forth. Simple, easy, and very fooling. The gimmick is clever but the tutorial is bare-bones, just a quick silent demo. Huge potential for creative routines, but you’ll need to build your own. Great prop, disappointing teaching.

Until next week, grab some magic and have fun with the best hobby in the world!
