Remember Drawing Room Deceptions from '99? Card magicians were all over it. Well, Guy Hollingworth is back with another one, teaming up with Vanishing Inc. and Mike Caveney's Magic Words. Turns out, good things do take time.
So, it's nearly 300 pages of Guy's professional gear. You've got card routines, parlour tricks, and fresh spins on classics like Hofzinser's Aces and The Universal Card. Plus, tricks like Card to Pocket and Story Deck. Plenty to keep you busy, like his "Topless" Top Change or a new twist on the Lateral Palm. Over 500 photos, so if you muck it up, at least it's not for lack of trying.
It's not just cards, though. There's a coin routine where one coin seems to hit the gym and bulk up, a nifty jacket holdout, and a polished take on Professor's Nightmare. And his favourite opener for strolling gigs, which, if you're like me, will take a few tries before it stops looking like you're just dropping things.
You'll probably find yourself coming back to this book. Guy's latest is worth a peek if you like magic books. Or even if you don't, no judgement here.
Denis Behr, who's been waiting since '99, seems chuffed with the new stuff Guy crammed in. Mac King, not one to hand out compliments like confetti, calls it a work of art, even if you just want to drool over the photos. High praise from people who've seen a trick or two.
I have been playing around with this a bit and it works well. It does need a small amount of preparation depending on the effect you want to perform but this is very easy to do. The gimmicks are provided but you will need to provide a matching deck as that is not supplied.
