A timeless collection of magic that has made its way into the repertoires of pros. Enhanced, updated and newly edited.
When Sonata appeared in 1989, Juan Tamariz was already known as an important performer, creator and thinker. His performances in nightclubs and on stage and television had made him a celebrity in Spain and in many other Latin countries. By the time The Five Points in Magic, The Magic Way and Sonata were published in English, his reputation, already spreading through the underground streams of international magic, burst to the surface and established Tamariz as a master. His two previous books laid the foundation on which Sonata, a generous sampling from his professional repertoire, was built.
Sonata was Tamarizâs first volume of âBewitched Musicâ. Years later, Mnemonica, the second volume of the series, shook the magic scene. By that time, Sonata had been out of print for years and used copies fetched high prices. At long last, Sonata is back, newly edited, with errors and omissions corrected and information added. This is Sonata with an enhanced score. The material, while published decades ago, is still vibrant. It has not aged. It is a selection of some of the finest magic with playing cards and penknives ever published, ready to be presented by todayâs performers for the amazement of todayâs audiences. This sonata is written to be playedâa classic work renewed for this and future generations.
Included with Sonata is a reproduction booklet of The New Mini-Symbolic Method; a system of symbols developed by Juan Tamariz to read, interpret, and write down tricks. It was originally published in conjunction with Sonata in 1989. It has been revised for the new edition.
About Juan Tamariz: A celebrity of television and stage in Spain and South America, Juan Tamariz is known internationally among magicians as a true master of his art, and one who generously shares his time and knowledge, both in print and in person, with the magic community. He is the author of six critically acclaimed best-selling books in English: The Five Points in Magic, The Magic Way, Sonata, Mnemonica, The Magic Rainbow and Verbal Magic.
Along with Arturo de Ascanio, Tamariz has spearheaded a school of thought in close-up magic that has produced FISM award-winning champions and deeply influenced the craft of magic worldwide. Tamariz lives in Madrid and performs everywhere.
Tamariz is a legend and this book is proof, if it were needed.
Hard to get on its first printing this new edition makes it possible to own one of the seminal magic texts from one of magicâs great thinkers and performers. There is a ton of stuff in here, not least of which is Total Coincidence, a routine which blew everyone out of the water when it first appeared. There are moves (Tamariz Perpendicular Control), card effects (Neither Blind Nor Silly), theory, and even penknife routines (this is one if the main reasons I purchased this book and it hasnât disappointed) all in a beautifully produced and updated volume.
Part one of the Bewitched Music trilogy, they all deserve a place in your collection. Not cheap but worth every penny. Highly recommended.

The OG perfect score was great and did its job for me for years , Perfect Score 2.0 outshines its original . Great tutorial going in depth on the mercury fold and even card splitting . 5 Stars !
The usual speedy delivery by Alex. Lovely props, and clever routine, although I havenât used it in the trenches yet. Knocked one star off as the red poker chip had a minor chip (damage) in it. This is a product issue though and absolutely no reflection on Monster Magic.
Needs a bit of practice to get angles / timing down , but put that in and youâve got a visual masterpiece in your hands . Instant reset , tutorial is fantastic 100% a worker
